Recently, I got a wonderful opportunity to attend the workshop on agile gamification where I learned about a lot of aspects of product. Interestingly, played games on product understanding and build an awareness as how the market behaves with the unmet needs.
The Product owner is crucial in the world of continued demand and supply. They stood to be the one to lay the pavement of the organization’s success. They are organically in the system to meet the market needs with their skilled focus and priority determination. The world of Product owner is a complete “Hullabaloo”. They had to work and deliver the maximum business value with the team to the business and in this case, they truly strive hard to meet every need met. We all have pretty much known that the customer for the development team is the Product owner and therefore, it stands to be the accountability of the PO’s to ensure that they are clear in their requirement as what they want to have at their side.
This happens with us every day, how many of the times we want to buy something that is useful and end up fetching which don’t make sense, Well, quite a lot many times and product owners therefore need to know the value they would be deriving out from the teams. But before we get into the requirement, how many of us as the PO’s talk to our customer and get into their shoes to understand what they need. Fetching the detail is a next step, but an interaction to know what they are looking for is the vital know.
Knowing your customer often takes a time and there are many factors to that, the demographic, geography, language, timezone and of course culture. Understanding business often connects with language and culture. Well, you can always learn the skill set to get everything documented as so-called requirement in a paper, but often striking the right note for the customer has been difficult. If you get a hold, there is nothing like that, but if you are finding it difficult, then I must say this needs to be worked on.
A product owner must equally be aware of the customer behavior and the market need. Delivering a feature which is not going to fetch value will result in waste of time and vice versa. PO’s must be able to back up the data with a metric and real time numbers. Numbers is what calculated for and for any project to be successful, the value must be derived in its complete beauty.
This just doesn’t end here, being visionary is equally important. However, this skill might be tough to accomplish, but not hard, a product vision is the also one of the key factors in delivering what the customers seeks. To grow as a product owner and that too a visionary product owner seeks a lot of demanding work, but yes, the time will teach you much if you as a PO continue to grow and expand.
